Continent 4Episode 2: Sarah Gallahan (Part 1)

A man in rebel gear asks another man in a suit with a lambda armband what's taking her so long. The second man, Colonel Rob, explains that the city is over 50 miles from this dam and, even on a good day, that's quite a road trip. Then, an old beaten-up taxi drives up to them, with the Colonel exclaiming there she is. Sarah Gallahan and her friend Lt exit the car, the former with a big smile on her face. The Colonel tells his man to go ahead and head for the briefing and they'll catch up. The Colonel tells Sarah that they're issuing new weapons today and invites the duo to take a couple, compliments of the house. Lt excitedly points out a Deagle and Sarah tells him to go ahead and pick one out for each of them. The Colonel finds Sarah needing a gun strange and asks her how many Civil Protection officers she has put down. She replies none yet, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want a shiny new gun. The Colonel is amazed at that and points out it's a good thing she isn't stationed in one of their European Resistance groups, because they have to put down units almost daily. The Colonel and Sarah reach a meeting where a man in a Civil Protection uniform is explaining how to disarm a Combine tripmine. The Colonel interrupts by jokingly expressing his disappointment that they started without him, then introduces Captain Sarah.

The man in a metro cop uniform ignores the Captain and proceeds with his explanation, but then interrupts himself by asking if he said Sarah. Sarah says that's her and the man in a Civil Protection suit asks if she's the one from City 30 and points out she has a contact on the inside. He asks her to tell him who it is so that they can better coordinate information. Sarah angrily tells him he must be out of his mind and that it goes against every agreement she has with him. The Colonel points out the man makes a valid point but Sarah protests and starts to leave. Colonel Rob chases after her and grabs her by the arm. She tells him to let go of her but he replies that there's something she needs to know. He tells her there's going to be a raid in a base outside of City 22. She angrily asks and, to which Rob tells her that Chuck is stationed there right now.

Sarah stares at Rob with disgust and tells him that's a sick lie, but he replies it's not and that if they can't get more information on the raid, it won't be true for very long. Sarah relents and tells him she'll talk to his man. Sarah and Lt drive off back home. When they reach it, Sarah asks Lt about her new gun. He smiles, saying he thought she would never ask, and hands her a pistol with a laser sight and a silencer, explaining that it's called a USP and that the mercenary said he found it on the body of a Green Beret. Sarah sarcastically retorts how lovely and notes that it has a lot of knobs. Lt says right and starts to leave, explaining that the Doc wanted to see him about supplies. Later, Sarah radios Lee Calvert, asking if he didn't say there were going to be patrols today. He confirms it and Sarah explains that one of her men is going to be out there. As she starts to ask, Lee cuts her off, saying sure, he guesses the slums need to be inspected today, then turns off the radio.

Sarah notes to herself that she forgot to ask Lee about the raid and points out she will just have to talk to him on his way out. The scene cuts to the meeting between Lee and Sarah where Sarah killed two metro cops and escaped. Right afterwards, Sarah runs off in a panic, overhearing Civil Protection putting an all-points bulletin out with her description. Later, she sits down in the underground with her eyes closed, looking scared and shocked. Someone approaches her and asks her if she is alright. Without looking, she tells the person not really, because she just killed two people. The person tells her that's hard and they have been there. She asks really. The person talking to her is a Civil Protection officer, who extends a hand with a dark smile on his face as he tells Sarah that the first murder is always the hardest and tells her to take his hand, as everything is going to be okay. The narration states that she is Sarah Gallahan, the Resistance leader in City 30, but right now, she is in serious trouble. End of episode 2.

Ah, the life of espionage. It really makes for intriguing stories. I also love the little narrational blurbs at the end, it’s such a nice a coda for each episode.
