In a flashback, Julian Freeway narrates that it was about five years ago, when he was in his apartment. A headcrab canister came out of nowhere and crashed right into the middle of his living room. As we see Julian terrified and the canister opening, he says he would have been happy to get normal headcrabs, but no, he was lucky enough to get poison headcrabs. Two black poisonous headcrabs leap out of the headcrab shell canister as Julian explains that if you get bitten by one, it's already too late, you're as good as dead.

In narration, Julian explains his guess that everyone has the abilities, they just haven't unlocked them yet, and he thinks it comes through intense emotion, in his case, fear. In the flashback, as Julian stares in terror at the poison headcrabs, they suddenly drop dead. Julian's narration explains that he talked to Doctor Kleiner about it and the blood veins in their brains burst, killing them instantly. Julian knew it was something he'd done, something with his mind. In the present, the Combine soldier aims the AR2 pulse rifle at Julian's head and tells him he has three seconds to comply. Julian stares calmly at the gun as he notes most people are scared stiff looking down the barrel of a gun, but not him though, he's all too used to it and it allows him to notice little things. As the Combine soldier starts counting down from three, Julian notices a can of Doctor Breen's Private Reserve on the ground. The soldier says two, unaware that the can has started glowing purple.

As the Combine soldier counts down to one, Julian levitates the can of Doctor Breen's Private Reserve with his mind and psychically tosses it at the soldier's head. The soldier and the Civil Protection officers all turn around, the soldier asking who threw that. Julian notes in his head that all three of them turning around is not a good idea, nor is turning around leaving your weapon wide open. Julian snatches the rifle out of the soldier's hand, then hits him in the head with the butt of the rifle.

Julian quickly turns around and shoots the two Civil Protection metro cops dead. Julian then tosses the weapon away, figuring he'd better get out of there fast as the Combine will be there any minute. Suddenly, a scanner floats down and stops right in front of his face. Worried, Julian realizes if that thing gets his picture, he's a dead man, the Combine will know who he is. The scanner suddenly starts making mechanical noises.

The Combine scanner suddenly dies out and falls on the ground, broken. Confused, Julian notes he didn't do that. He suddenly hears a voice in his head saying excuse me. He looks to the side and finds a citizen staring straight at him. The voice in his head says follow me. Julian realizes in shock that he can communicate.

The citizen walks away and Julian notes he has no idea who he is, what he wants or why he wants to follow him. The man smiles to himself as Julian stares, gobsmacker. The end.
