Lt_Commander’s Other ComicsBodygroups and You

A Garry’s Mod player is posing Doctor Breen being held at gunpoint by a citizen when someone calls out hey, you there. The player turns to find Lt_Commander sitting on his desk nearby. Lt_C greets them and says he sees they’re using a model that has bodygroups. He reveals they’re only getting a fraction of the use out of those models by just using the base and that there’s a scripted tool that allows you to get access to the other skins and models hidden just outside of your grasp. He says it’s called the Bodygroup Changer Tool and if they’ve downloaded something within the last year or so, there’s a good chance that that will help them get access to the extra features you’ve been missing out on. He hands the player a tool gun and tells them to give it a try. The player goes to the Garry’s Mod menu and selects Bodygroup Changer, equipping the tool. Lt_C says great, they’ve equipped it, then offers to give a few quick pointers. He explains the UI in the Q menu or C menu allows you to adjust bodygroups and subgroups and you need to select the bodygroup you want first, then use the primary fire (left mouse click), while the secondary fire (right mouse click) cycles through skingroups. He points out skingroups are more common than you think and several default models use them, it’s just a matter of finding them. A few paintings and two computer screens appear on the ground, revealing different textures for the same models. Lt_C invites the player to try it out now that they know what to do, adding that a rebel version of that citizen model would work better in this scene. He tells the player to remember: first, select, then aim, then fire. The player changes the citizen’s shirt to a medic outfit and Lt_C says there you go, then suggests they try some subgroups on other bodygroups, noting that, although there’s no standard in bodygroups, the bodygroup slider usually represents a specific section of a model and the subgroup switches between various options in the bodygroup. Lt_C adds that that model has bodygroups for the beanie, torso, legs and hands and the skingroups change the texture of the face, which is a common setup. The player changes the model to a medic with a beanie and Lt_C says good, with some post-processing effects and hard work, their screenshots will be looking better in no time, then whispers he wouldn’t post that crap though. The end.
