This page is meant to explain to you what data you’re sharing with us (the website https://metrocop.net) when you access any page on this website, why we’re collecting that data and how you can get in touch if you need us to remove anything.
Data we collect
Analytics
Metrocop uses Google Analytics and Matomo Analytics to gather information on how the site is used, such as how visitors reach the website, what pages are visited, what countries the visitors are coming from and more. It’s worth pointing out that Metrocop does not use Google Analytics for marketing purposes; this is ensured by loading the Google Analytics tag (gtag
) with the consent status of 'ad_storage': 'denied'
. This prevents advertising cookies from being stored on your device.
Analytical cookies (‘analytics_storage
‘) are set to ‘granted
‘ in order for Google Analytics to store first-party cookies on your device to recognize your activity in your future sessions. With that being said, IP anonymization (‘anonymize_ip
‘) is set to ‘true
‘ in order to mask IP addresses and safeguard your privacy.
Comment form
When you leave a comment on Metrocop, the form saves not only the data shown in the comments form (name, email address, your comment) but also your IP address and browser user agent in order to prevent spam.
Additionally, Metrocop uses Gravatar by Automattic to display custom profile pictures on comments. When you comment on Metrocop, an anonymized string (a.k.a. a hash) created from your email address may be provided to Gravatar to check if you are using said service in order to display your public profile picture on Metrocop.
Contact form
If you use our contact form, the information you share on that contact form, including your name, email address, subject and message, is sent to the Metrocop team. This information is not shared with any third parties.
Cookies
When you leave a comment on Metrocop, you can opt in to save your name and email address in cookies for when you comment again in the future, just for the convenience of not having to fill up the same details again in the future. This cookie is optional and is set for the duration of 1 year.
Additionally, if you visit a login page, a temporary cookie may be set in order for the system to check if your browser accepts cookies.
Embedded content from external websites
Occasionally, pages visited on Metrocop may have embedded content from third-party websites. A good example is a YouTube video or a Twitter tweet. That content functions much the same as it does on the third-party’s own websites, meaning they may set their own cookies, gather data on you, add third-party tracking of their own and monitor how you interact with that content if you are logged into their service.
Who we share your data with
As aforementioned, we currently use Google Analytics for analytical purposes, meaning that information about your visit may be shared with Google for the purposes of usage of their analytical software.
How long your data is saved
Analytical data, if you consent to its collection, is set to be saved up to 12 months.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its corresponding metadata are retained indefinitely, the latter of which so that future comments you share are automatically approved instead of being left for moderation if your prior comment was also approved.
For users that register on this website (if any), the information shared on their user profile is also saved. Said information is viewable, editable and deletable by the user that owns it, apart from the username. Website administrators may also see and edit that information.
How you can claim your data or ask additional questions
You can use the contact form to contact us in regards to your personal information, such as to know what personal data we hold about you or to request its deletion.
