Hercule Cubbage looks to the side with a scared look on his face. Narration: This day was the turning point of my life. Like a gun to my head, really. End narration. Someone off-screen orders: Drop your weapons! Hercule replies: Who are you? Are you with the Resistance? The off-screen voice repeats: I said drop 'em! Hercule Cubbage drops his pistol and his metal pipe to the ground as he says: All right, all right, calm down! Narration: The day I set off to try and make a difference, even before I knew that everything was about to change. End narration. The person behind Hercule Cubbage has feminine features. She tells him: Now turn around! Narration: The day I began to realize that not all that I thought I knew was actually true. End narration. Hercule turns around with a surprised look as he sees the gun aimed at his head. Narration: And, last but not least...

The person aiming a gun at Hercule Cubbage's head is a young woman with dirty blonde hair, who stares at him sternly. Narration: ... the day I met her. End narration. Chapter Title: Railway Junction. Hercule Cubbage looks around the gun at the woman and points at her pistol as he says: Uh... hi. Would you mind pointing that elsewhere? The woman doesn't budge and asks him: Who are you?

Hercule Cubbage raises his head as he replies: I am Hercule Cubbage, son of Colonel Cubbage! The woman raises an eyebrow as she asks: ... Who? Hercule, still holding his hands up, stares at the sky in disbelief as he says: Oh, you have to be kidding me! Does no one know the leader of the Resistance around these parts?! The woman stares at him in thought for a moment. She lowers her gun as she tells him: Okay, call me crazy, but I trust you. Sorry for all that, but the Combine have been raiding the railway today. You can't be too careful.

Hercule rubs his head as he relaxes and tells the woman: Don't worry about it. From what I've seen so far today, you do well to take care. So, who are you? Were you stationed here? The woman replies: My name's Lucy. I was staying in another station when Civil Protection started hitting the canals. We broke camp before the sweep. I came here looking for other survivors to try and make a push for Station Six and then get to the Black Mesa East hydroplant. How about you? What station were you in? Hercule replies: None, actually. I just got here from the city, trying to make my way to the Coast. Lucy points towards the side as she tells Hercule: The Coast? That's a long way off, but you can get there from the hydroplant, I think. How about we go together? Hercule rubs his chin as he replies: Yes, sounds like a plan! Lucy notes: I saw a radio inside the station. Let me just try to get in touch with Station Six to see if they still have their airboat.

Inside the run-down makeshift room with some old furniture, Hercule and Lucy stand around the old radio as she fiddles with it and asks: Station Six, do you read? Station Six, come in! If anybody can hear us, come in! Please be there... An answer crackles through the radio: This is Station Six! Come in! Lucy breathes a sigh of relief as she answers: Thank God! Station Six, do you still have the airboat? Station Six replies: Negative! At Station Six, a refugee tells Lucy through the radio: Doctor Freeman took the airboat to Black Mesa East a few hours ago! Lucy replies: Wait, you mean -- Lucy looks shocked as she completes her sentence: -- Gordon Freeman?! Confused, Hercule asks: Who?

Lucy looks around towards Hercule and raises an eyebrow as she asks rhetorically: You don't know of Doctor Freeman...? Hercule stutters as he replies: I... er... you didn't know Odessa Cubbage! The refugee from Station Six talks again through the radio: Station Six was shelled and it's almost nightfall. It's over. I'm gonna find shelter. Over and out! Looking at Lucy, who looks downbeat, Hercule notes: It seems the airboat plan is out of the question. Lucy concedes: Well, to be fair, it wouldn't do both of us much good. It only has one seat. But it was my only plan... Hercule raises a finger as he brings up another idea: Not quite. I recall an old shelter that connected to the hydroplant. It's not the fastest path, but I think there was a route there through the old canals. Lucy looks over her shoulder at Hercule as she declares: Then what are we waiting for?

The sky starts to turn orange as the day turns to dusk. Lucy has to ask again: Have you really never heard of Doctor Freeman? Cutting a corner with his gun in hand, Hercule stops and signals Lucy. He says: Wait. Lucy asks him: What is it? As Hercule looks around the corner, he sees Civil Protection officers standing around. He whispers to Lucy: Civil Protection. Three men. Hercule looks back at Lucy and tells her: They're distracted. I'm sure I can flank the blokes. Cover me, when you hear me shout, fire. Lucy looks worried as she tells him: Okay... but be careful.

Hercule sneaks behind two of the metro cops. He grunts quietly as he climbs up inside an old truck. He keeps making his way towards the other side while the cops are still distracted. Hercule reaches cover and glances at the cops. Lucy mutters to herself: Any second now... Hercule stares at her as he turns and shouts: NOW! Both Hercule and Lucy fire at the three Civil Protection officers, killing them all. Lucy closes in on one of the officers, gun still raised, to make sure he's dead. As Lucy and Hercule stare at the dead metro cops, Lucy notes: Well, that worked. Hercule replies: Yes, they're just human. I've dealt with worse back home. Come on, we have to hurry. Grab ammo and anything useful you can find.

Later, Hercule smiles as he declares: Found it. Hercule and Lucy are standing at the entrance to a tunnel, which is full to the brim with a stockpile of old Resistance supplies. Hercule notes: Those stairs lead to the canals I told you about. We should look for anything worth taking here first, though. Lucy picks up a bright orange tube and reads the label out loud: "Emergency flares"? Hercule tells her: Those could come in handy, bring a few. As Hercule and Lucy reach the end of the stairs and enter the canals. Hercule looks over his shoulder and tells her: From what I remember, this place is a maze. Stay close... and keep your gun up. Hercule and Lucy raise their weapons as they start walking in the shallow canal.

As Hercule and Lucy traverse the canals, she turns to him and says: So, Cubbage, can I ask you something? He replies: Of course. She continues: You mentioned your dad being a Resistance leader earlier. Why aren't you with him? Hercule explains: it's... complicated. Father and I have been out of touch for a while. Lucy looks down for a second as she notes: Well, at least you still have a father. Hercule looks at her, but can't find the words to reply. A moment later, Hercule and Lucy come across a dark corner. Hercule tells Lucy: It's quite dark in here. Hand me one of those flares. Hercule lights up a flare as he and Lucy enter the darkness.

Hercule complains about the canal as Lucy can't help but crack a smile. Ugh, what a dim, wet and fetid place. As they walk, Lucy suddenly looks behind her and asks: Did you hear something? Hercule keeps looking forward as he says: It's probably just your imagination. Keep moving. They keep walking, barely lit by the flare. As they move, a faint groan is heard behind them. Gaah. Hercule grimaces, whereas Lucy looks scared. He notes: What is that fouls tench? Wait, I know this stink... She tells him: I swear I just heard it again...

Hercule and Lucy cut a corner and look shocked at what they see. A groan is heard: Grruh! Lucy screams in shock: Aaah!! In front of Hercule Cubbage are two headcrab zombies, twisted walking corpses with ripped clothes covered in blood and a parasitic creature on their heads. One of the creatures moans as Hercule exclaims: Zombies! Aim for the head!

Lucy suddenly looks behind her as she hears another muffled groan and spots more zombies approaching. She tells Hercule: They're behind us too! Lucy turns around as Hercule starts shooting the zombies in front of him, hitting one straight in the headcrab, which kills it immediately. He tells Lucy: Take care of those! Don't let them surround us! Lucy starts firing on the zombies behind them.

As Hercule and Lucy are flanked by the zombies, Lucy exclaims. I'm gonna reload! The zombies keep coming as suddenly light starts to dim. Hercule stares at the flare in his hand as he says: Damn it, it's dying out! The flare sputters the last bits of light as Hercule looks over his shoulder at Lucy and asks in a panic: Hand me another, quick! She shouts back: Hold on! Hercule and Lucy are covered in darkness for a moment, then Lucy exclaims: Here! Hercule lights a new flare up and stares in shock as a zombie moans audibly.

A zombie is right in front of Hercule Cubbage, raising its arms as it shouts: Yearghh!! The zombie swipes at Hercule, who screams: Agh! Behind him, Lucy, still firing at zombies on her side, asks: What was that?! Are you okay? Hercule hits back with his flare at the zombie, which stumbles back.

The zombie lights up in flames from the flare, screaming in pain. Hercule swiftly shoots it dead and tells Lucy: I'm fine! CLear on my side! Lucy stares at the approaching zombies on her side. She tells Hercule: There's still more of them! What should we do?! Hercule looks over his shoulder at her and screams one word: Run!

Hercule and Lucy run away from the zombies through the darkness. They suddenly spot a place lit up by lightbulbs. Lucy notes: Light! It must be an exit! Hercule drops the dying flare onto the floor as he and Lucy rush towards the light. They find an old door with an exit sign next to a lambda symbol graffiti. Lucy exclaims: There! Get in! Hercule rushes in and Lucy slams the door behind her with her shoulder.

Hercule and Lucy find some stairs and Hercule starts going down them. Following behind, Lucy stops and puts her right arm to the wall as she holds her side with the left. She screams: Oh, God! Oh, G-God... that was close... Lucy stands with her back towards the wall as she puts her hand on her head and confesses: I-I thought we wouldn't make it... but we made it... right? Cubbage? Not getting an aswer, Lucy looks over at him, and exclaims in shock: Cubbage! You're hurt! Hercule Cubbage is sitting on the floor holding his stomach, where blood can be seen. Lucy kneels next to Hercule with a worried look as she tells her with some effort: It's nothing... just a flesh wound... She exclaims: Are you insane?! No, it's not! Let me take a look at it! Hercule asks: What, a-are you a medic...? She tells him: I got some training at the station, yes... Lucy then takes out a portable Combine medkit from her pockets. She adds: ... plus, I took this from those CP's we killed.

Hercule smiles at Lucy as he replies: Heh... just my luck... She looks at him empathically as she tells him: Come on, I'll fix you up and then we'll keep going. A while later, Hercule and Lucy are making their way through the old underground tunnels. Lucy is still looking at Hercule concernedly and asks: Are you sure you can go on? He tells her: Yes, I'm cough I'm fine. Plus, we're almost to the old shelter. Let's get there first and then take a breather. They suddenly stop in shock as something big and metallic covers their path. The thing makes a robotic questioning sound. VORR? Lucy gasps and Hercule exclaims: Blimey! Hercule and Lucy look on as someone approaches and asks the robotic thing: What is it, boy? The person then spots Hercule and Lucy and asks: Oh, who are you two? Hercule starts to reply: I am Hercule Cubbage. Lucy then interrupts him: My name's Lucy. This is Cubbage.

The person talking to Hercule and Lucy is a young Black Asian woman in her twenties, wearing an old patched up coat and an old hoodie with the words Black Mesa in it. Behind her is a robotic giant with an old Combine scanner for a head. She introduces herself. Nice to meet you, I'm Alyx Vance. This is Dog. Did you just say "Cubbage"? End of Chapter Two.
